With the access of the amendment, the Casino Control Act approved the New Jersey Casino Control Commission-acknowledged hotels.

These hotels were required to have a minimum of 500 guest rooms, and must meet specific basic exhibition and meeting space.

They must also accommodate indoor sports, dining facilities, and live entertainment. Credit methods and the collection of winnings is rigidly ruled by the Act.

All in all, tourists lose a little money in the casinos than those in Vegas. They are not extravagant spenders by any means. Almost all of the tourists come in Atlantic City by bus or by car; whereas most of these tourists arrive in Vegas by jet, or car.

Approximately more than twice as many tourists come to see Atlantic City every year; but the added convention and gaming profit is naturally higher in Las Vegas.

Part of the original explanation for permitting Atlantic City to operate gambling casinos was the hope that the profits would be utilized to enhance the rundown housing of the city's elderly and poor population.

While some development has taken place, it has not been sponsored by any casino to erect homes on city-owned properties, and to renovate others.

Even with its limitations and setbacks, however, Atlantic City is still an important gambling place.
